An Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court remanded a man named Stephen Monday, in custody for allegedly defiling his lover’s four-year-old daughter.
After hearing his plea, Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded him on Monday.
The defendant is facing an allegation of child defilement brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
During the defendant’s arraignment, the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Babajide Martins, informed the court that the offence was committed on February 14, 2021.
Martins said that the incident took place at about 5am, at No 5, Ayeloja in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The DPP told the court that the defendant allegedly had carnal knowledge of the four-year-old girl.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea of not guilty, Martins requested a trial date.
Consequently, Justice Soladoye, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail.
She adjourned the case till November 9, 2023, for commencement of trial.
