Ilesa was thrown into chaos on Monday as thugs, allegedly led by Hon. Olawale Akerele (aka Water), the Osun State House of Assembly member representing Ilesa West, launched a brutal attack on prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figures.
The ambush targeted Engr. Remi Omowaiye, the Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), and Hon. Tobi Famurewa, one of the recently reinstated local government chairmen. The attack left several APC members seriously injured, with bullets riddling vehicles and shattering windows.
Omowaiye, who was in his hometown for political consultations, had earlier led APC members to the police headquarters in Ilesa, seeking protection for the reinstated local government executives. After their visit, they dispersed peacefully only for violence to erupt shortly after.
While heading back to Osogbo, Omowaiye’s convoy ran into an ambush near Ilesa West Local Government. Reports indicate that gunmen, allegedly under Akerele’s command, opened fire on his vehicle, narrowly missing him but seriously injuring his driver and police orderly.
“My driver and police orderly sustained serious gunshot wounds. They have been rushed to the hospital,” Omowaiye told reporters, describing the harrowing experience.
The attack also left Hon. Tobi Famurewa and his team battered, with several APC supporters reportedly wounded in the chaos.
Omowaiye has called on the Inspector General of Police to launch an immediate investigation and ensure that those responsible face justice.
