A massive traffic gridlock, reportedly caused by heavy-duty trucks, has engulfed the road from Maje in Suleja Local Government Area (LGA) to Izom in Gurara LGA of Niger State.

Although four trailers were involved in road accidents, the crashes have not significantly obstructed the traffic flow.

Further checks revealed that the gridlock extended from Diko Junction in Tafa LGA of Niger State to Jere in Kaduna State, severely hindering movement along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

Stranded commuters and motorists were seen on both lanes of the highway, enduring days of hardship, hunger, and exhaustion.

In response, commercial motorcycle operators took advantage of the situation, selling bread along the highway, which recorded brisk sales.

Passengers Musa Yahuza and Hajiya Salmat Ibn Kasim recounted their ordeal, stating they had to charter motorcycles from Jere in Kaduna State to Lambata in Gurara LGA at the cost of ₦7,500.

Similarly, passengers from Suleja reportedly paid between ₦3,000 and ₦4,000 to travel via motorcycle from Maje to Lambata.

Many drivers and passengers spent nights on the road due to the prolonged gridlock, which has persisted for four days.

Notably, no personnel from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) or the Nigerian Police were seen at the scene to manage the situation. Both agencies have yet to issue official statements on the matter.

Motorists traveling along the Suleja-Minna road are advised to seek alternative routes, such as Lambata to Gwagwalada, to avoid being caught in the jam.
