In few days’ time, May 29 precisely, the government of President Bola Tinubu will be one year in office.
As preparations reaches top gear to celebrate how Tinubu has fared in the last one year, key players have rated how the Tinubu led government has affected the country’s aviation sector.
X-raying the performance of the government in the last one year, a former military commandant of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Group Captain John Ojikutu retired, faulted the appointments made by the Tinubu government in aviation.
According to Ojikutu: “Those he appointed into the Aviation administration and managements are doing more damage rather than restoring the damage done to the sector by the previous administration.”
He however identified some areas he wants the government to pay attention to in the coming one year.
Amongst the areas he wants the government through the ministry of aviation to concentrate on he major areas one would expect the ministry administration to focus on include the need to review the Bilateral Air Service Agreements Nigeria has with over 100 countries which have been described as disadvantageous to Nigeria.
His words: “The ministry should first, review whatever BASA that gave foreign airlines multiple destinations in our country. No foreign airlines should go to Lagos and Abuja but they either go to Lagos or Abuja and to any other airport in the alternative geographical areas to the airport of their first choice.
“Secondly, designate two national flag carriers for the country in alternative to the national carrier which we have in over twenty years failed to establish.
“Thirdly, concession the non aeronautical services in all the airports in compliance to the Privatisation, Commercialisation and Concession Act of 2000.
“Discourage the interferences of the Minister of Aviation in the administration and management of the agencies so that they can regularly comply with the National Regulations and the international standards and global best practices.
“Let the NCAA do its oversights on the operators and enforcement of the regulations on their operations as demanded by the Nig CARs.”
Rating the performance of the governments in aviation and in general, the United States-based Chief Executive Officer of Santos Aviation, Mr Segun Adesanya, said contrary to the quick evaluations of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has achieved enough to give him a thumbs up in one year.
While describing the present turnaround in the country’s aviation industry alone ias amazing, Adesanya commended the support of the aviation minister shared in the vision of the president.
“From New Dehli, India G-20 submit, to the recent trip to the Netherlands, not to mention the domestic shake-up and many more to come, Sheriff Tinubu is new in town, and the good citizens of Nigeria and friends of Nigeria around the globe are behind the president – mutely watching surprisingly. Nigeria will surely regain its glory back.
“There’s a saying that: Education is no wisdom, it’s just a guest of mind.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a well-educated Nigerian, especially in the Country’s lawless “I don’t care” Cultural attitude by the politicians and he’s reforming the scrambled economy of Nigeria to normalization.
We have seen a PhD. Doctorate holders inside the Aso Rock as well as the Military Generals both in their Military and Civilian regimes from the northern part of the country to the southern part with zero achievements to favor the poor citizens during their scandalous terms – They are just Fools on top of the Hill.
Twelve months of evaluation of Mr. Tinubu as the commander of Nigeria is irrelevant at this moment but rather to watch the wonders coming next on the revival of the glorious country Nigeria. Our president is not acting alone, God is using Mr. Tinubu and nobody can stop that.”
