Governor Caleb Mutfwang has dismissed speculations that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is the third time this year that the governor will issue such denials as the social media was abuzz with the insinuations at the weekend.
During the last Edo State gubernatorial election campaign, the picture of Governor Mutfwang was conspicuously displayed alongside other APC governors billed for the campaign in the state.
A stalwart of the party in Plateau State, who did not want his name in print, said the recurring rumour has started causing disaffection among staunch PDP supporters, hence the need for the governor’s clarification.
In a statement by his director of press affairs and public affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, the governor described the claims as the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at misleading the public about his allegiance and commitment to the PDP.
He specifically condemned a doctored document in circulation, which falsely depicted his image alongside APC governors, purportedly preparing to welcome President Bola Tinubu to Edo State, saying the fabrication was designed to create confusion and cast doubts on his loyalty to the PDP.
He reiterated his steadfast dedication to serving the people of Plateau under the PDP, the platform through which he earned the people›s mandate, and that he did not contemplate leaving the party for any other one.
Mutfwang reassured PDP members in Plateau and the North-Central that consultations with critical stakeholders are ongoing to resolve the lingering issues in the party in the zone.
Highlighting the success of the recent PDP governors’ meeting hosted in the state, the governor emphasised that it reflects the principles of equity, justice, and fairness envisioned by the party’s founding fathers.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the federal government in the collective interest of Plateau State’s development.
