An unidentified suspected armed robber was killed by a mob action during a robbery attempt at Bishop Moore Memorial School, Staff Quarters on Sunday, November 4.

The incident happened around 4:30 AM on Sunday, it was gathered.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command through its PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili, Police Operatives attached to GRA Police Divisional Headquarters led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in conjunction with local vigilantes, swiftly responded to an armed robbery incident in the area.

He stated that upon arrival at the scene, the suspects took to their heels to a nearby mountain but they were pursued and arrested, however, the prompt response of the operatives prevented the suspects from being lynched by mob though one of them was killed as a result of the mob action.

While reacting to the ugly incident, the Commissioner of Police, Awwal Mohammad frowned at the action of the irate youths who, instead of taking the suspect to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution, mobbed the suspect arrested for the alleged offence to death without any recourse to the law.

The police boss described the act as barbaric and inimical to the law governing the country and warned youths that the Command under his stewardship will not tolerate or allow some recalcitrants in the society to take the laws into their hands by killing suspects arrested for alleged crimes in such a dehumanising and unlawful manner.

He further warned that nobody has the right to treat a suspect in such a brutal manner and it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of a law enforcement agency, suspect apprehended in connection with any crime should be mediately handed over to the police or any law enforcement agencies saddled with the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting such.

The meanwhile, revealed the details of the suspects arrested: Suleiman Adamu, 19; Umar Abubakar, 19.
Similarly, a confession from the suspects, according to police, revealed that they were all armed with cutlasses and sticks when they invaded the student’s compound.
