Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the union between a couple, Aaliya and Kingsley, due to irresponsibility, lack of love and threat to life by the latter.

Aliyah, who dragged her husband to court, explained that she had no peace of mind being married to Kingsley.

The plaintiff stated that their marriage was devoid of intimacy.

According to her, her husband failed to meet her physical and emotional needs.

Aliyah  further said that their relationship experienced more strain after they lost their only child.

The plaintiff explained that the defendant took to threatening to kill her, which made her leave his house.

Aliyah thus pleaded with the court to dissolve their wedlock.

She also requested an order restraining him from threatening and interfering with her private life.

Kingsley refused to come to court despite being served court summonses.

Aliyah in her evidence, said, “My husband and I lived together as a couple for 12 years, but he did not pay my bride price.

“Our marriage lacked excitement because my husband showed me no love or care.

“He took me for a part of the furniture in the house and never related with me as his wife.

“He refused to meet my physical and emotional needs.

“The strain in our relationship became more obvious after we lost our only child.

“He became more hostile and always threatened to kill me.

“I left his house before he made real his threat.

“My lord, I desire to move on with my life.

“I, therefore, pray this honourable court to stop our relationship.

“I also request for an order restraining him from threatening and interfering with my private life. “

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo’s ruling, stated that the plaintiff had stated that she was no longer interested in her marriage.

She added that ample opportunity was given to the defendant to save his marriage, but that he refused to make use of it.

According to Akintayo, the defendant’s attitude showed that he  was also in support of the dissolution of their wedlock.

Akintayo, giving her judgment, stated that there was no marriage to be dissolved because no customary marriage was held between the two, while no bride price was paid.

She gave an order restraining the defendant from threatening or interfering with the plaintiff’s private life.
