An Ilorin-based man, Bashir Mohammed, has pleaded with the Area Court at Center-Igboro in Ilorin, Kwara State, to disregard his wife’s divorce application as he was still interested in their marriage.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the respondent told the court that both families had intervened in their differences and persuaded the petitioner to withdraw the divorce suit.
“These people are those that financed our marriage and have done a lot for our family and as such their decision should be honoured,” he said.
The petitioner, Toyiba Mohammed, a mother of five, said the respondent has a stubborn attitude which hinders the progress of their family.
“I have made several attempts that he might change, but he has been adamant,” she said.
The presiding judge, Hammad Ajumobi, said however that their families do not have the right to force the petitioner to remain in marriage, except it was her wish.
Ajumobi, however, advised the respondent to make amendments regarding the cause of their misunderstanding, and do the needful.
He also urged the petitioner to exercise more patience to allow for settlement.
The court adjourned the case till January 9, 2024.
