A man, Omoniyi, has dragged his wife, Simbiat before Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying that it end their relationship on the grounds of irresponsibility and constant fight.
The plaintiff stated that his marriage to his wife has failed to give him the joy he so much desired.
According to him, his experience has been that of stress and pain.
Omoniyi explained that Simbiat daily failed in carrying out her duties towards him and their children.
According to him, all she knew how to do was to fight and make their home non-habitable for him.
He prayed that the court would rule that they go their different ways.
The plaintiff also pleaded for custody of their children.
Simbiat agreed that their union be dissolved but disagreed that her husband had custody of their children.
According to her, he lacked the affection and ability to take proper care of them.
Omoniyi said: “My lord, all I pray for is that the court dissolve the wedlock between my wife and I.
“My wife is troublesome and has made life hellish for me.
“Her presence is not felt in the home because she is indifferent to my welfare and that of our children. She has completely abandoned her duties towards us.
“All that she knows to do is to pick up a fight with me.
“I feel ashamed any time our neighbours had to intervene in our differences.
“I am tired of fighting every now and then.
“I desire rest of mind and want to move on with life since she is not ready to walk in agreement with me.
“I pray for the dissolution of our marriage and custody of our children.”
Simbiat, in her testimony, stated, “My lord, l no longer love my husband.”
She said: “I am also sincerely tired of our marriage and desire my freedom.
“We were joined together under Islamic injunction, and he paid my bride price.
“My husband never stopped humiliating me. He always treated me with scorn.
“He has not been there for our children.
“He does not give us feeding allowance and has failed to be responsible for our children’s education.
“He beats me anytime I complain.
“The last time we fought, he dug his teeth into my palm and bit me.
“The wound is still fresh and painful.
“He seized my handset, stole my money, and locked up my belongings in a room.
“He has stretched my patience enough. I desire to be free.
“I pray for our children’s custody while he is made to be responsible for their upkeep, giving feeding, education, and health care priority.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case till July 15.
