GRADE ‘A’ Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has heard the testimony of a woman, Fatia, who brought a divorce suit against her husband, Promise, whom she alleged vowed to kill her.

Fatia stated that her relationship with her husband turned sour after the only child in their marriage died.

According to her, her husband suddenly became hostile to her and refused that she had peace of mind.

She stated that he became sterner after he took another wife and frustrated her, which spurred her decision to walk out of their marriage.

Fatia thus prayed the court to rule that they were no longer husband and wife.

Promise did not make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.

Fatia, in her testimony, said, “I had a good relationship with my husband and a blissful marriage before things went awry between us.

“All our property were jointly owned, even our house.

“I had the only child in our marriage through caesarean operation.

“The presence of our baby brought more joy into our home and deepened the affection my husband and I had for each other.

“Our joy was unfortunately short-lived because we later lost our baby.

“We tried to have another one after this, but all our efforts failed.

“The future became gloomy.

“But rather than encouraging each other, my husband suddenly turned cold, distant and harsh.

“He made life difficult for me and later took to threatening to kill me.

“He refused that I be even after he took another wife who bore him children.

“I woke up one morning and decided I have had enough of my husband’s maltreatment of me.

“I packed my belongings and walked out of our marriage.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case and ordered a fresh hearing notice to be issued and served the defendant.
