I just discovered that the testicles of my 6-month-old son are yet to descend into the scrotum. Kindly advise me on what to do.

If a testicle has not descended on its own by the time a baby is 6 months old, he should be checked by a paediatric specialist and have treatment if the condition is confirmed.

This usually involves surgically repositioning the testicle into the scrotum. The operation should ideally be carried out before your child’s 12 months old.

This is because waiting longer than this may increase a boy’s risk of developing fertility problems (infertility) or testicular cancer later in life.
