An Area Court at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara, Kwara State, has dissolved the union between a couple, Balikis Musa and Idris Yakub on the request of the wife and acceptance by her husband.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, dissolved the marriage, saying that the applicant had already sent a note to the court to indicate his approval.
He ordered that the applicant should observe a three-month waiting period before marrying another man.
The court granted custody of the only child in their marriage to the maternal grandmother, while the respondent was granted unrestricted access to the child at reasonable times.
The court ordered the respondent to be responsible for the upkeep of their child, giving adequate attention to feeding, education and health care.
Earlier, the applicant told the court that she was no longer interested in their marriage, stating that she no longer loved the respondent.
According to her, her love for her husband ceased after she had their first child and that she had to move out of her matrimonial home.
The respondent told the court that the applicant abandoned her matrimonial home and their 11-month-old baby for three years without any information of her whereabouts.
He said the baby was put in his mother-in-law’s care for the three years after which his wife suddenly surfaced and demanded for divorce.
