THE National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has congratulated the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The apex Muslim youth organisation, in a statement in Abuja signed by the National President, Malam Sani Suleiman Maigoro and National Secretary General, Alhaji Mas’ud Akintola, commended the National Judicial Council (NIC) for nominating Justice Kekere-Ekun and urged the National Assembly to speed up the process of the confirmation of her appointment.

The organisation asked the acting CJN to hit the ground running and address issues like issuance of conflicting judgments by courts of coordinate jurisdiction.

It said it was particularly pleased that as a Muslim woman, Justice Kekere-Ekun embodies Islam’s favourable disposition to female education and freedom of women to attain their full potential.

The organisation urged the new CJN to hold fast to the rope of God and continue to exhibit integrity in the discharge of her duties.

It also congratulated the immediate past CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on attaining the age of 70 and bowing out of service.

NACOMYO noted that with his short-but-very-eventful tenure, Justice Ariwoola had put his footprints in the sands of time.

According to NACOMYO, the former CJN is reputed for reducing the level of discontent in the judiciary and stabilising the system.

The organisation noted the the fiscal autonomy granted local government councils in the country and other “landmark judgments” that were delivered on his watch, which well received by a broad spectrum of Nigerians.

It commended the Ariwoola-led judiciary for discharging its duties with merit and for managing the pressure mounted by politicians and their followers during the 2023 general election.

The organisation congratulated the former CJN on retiring from service without blemish and wished him well for the future.
