The Acting Chairman/CEO National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Malam Halal Ahmad Arabi, has solicited the support of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in enhancing public enlightenment on the new policies of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the 2024 Hajj, including new visa deadline.

Arabi sought the support of the foremost Islamic organisation in Nigeria, working towards the promotion of Islamic values and fostering national development, at its 2023 central council meeting held in Minna, Niger State, on Monday while addressing the gathering on NAHCON’s activities for the 2024 Hajj.

According to a release signed and made available to Tribune Online by NAHCON Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, the Commission boss informed the gathering of the challenges being faced by the Hajj body on meeting the deadline on visa issuance as well as the need to act fast.

Usara stated that Arabi stressed on the global economic predicament and the role of the American dollar as a determinant of Hajj computation.

According to the release, Arabi expressed the hope that with the necessary support, the final Hajj fares would not exceed N4,500,000.

The Hajj body had set a December 31 deadline for the remittance by state Muslim pilgrims welfare boards/agencies/commissions of the minimum deposit of N4.5 million intending pilgrims across the country were asked to make.

Tribune Online reports that, unlike previous arrangements, Saudi authorities had issued new guidelines relating to next year’s Hajj with all Hajj-participating countries expected to conclude their accommodation and Masha’ir contracts by February 25, 2024.

For next year’s hajj, there is a clear departure from what was obtained up to this year as issuance of visas for intending pilgrims will commence on March 1, 2024, and close on April 29, while the first set of pilgrims are expected to arrival the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 9, 2024.
