The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, over allegations of naira abuse.

Tribune Online reports that the Okoya brothers were captured in a viral video allegedly engaging in acts considered to be abuse of the naira at an event.

In an invitation signed by the EFCC’s Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate, Michael Wetkas, the commission emphasised its commitment to enforcing Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse of the national currency.

The brothers have been directed to appear at the EFCC Lagos office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, at 10 a.m. on Monday, 13 January 2025.

The viral video, which has drawn widespread criticism, reportedly shows a police officer holding wads of naira notes while the Okoya brothers allegedly engaged in actions deemed disrespectful to the currency.

In response to the incident, the Nigerian Police Force has detained the officer involved for his role in the video.

The officer’s detention has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many condemning the action and questioning why the billionaire’s sons have not also been detained.

According to netizens, the officer should not be the only one detained, with many saying that the sons of the billionaire tycoon should also be detained alongside the officer.
