The Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Afeez Akinteye has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its contribution to education loan fund NELFUND.
Recall that the EFCC disclosed the funds injection into NELFUND when the Fund’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, led its management team on a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
The NANS President of the Senate, in a statement made available to Tribune Online, appreciated the Commission’s generous donation of N50 billion to the NELFUND, saying the remarkable gesture is not only a reflection of the EFCC’s dedication to combating financial crimes but also a demonstration of its commitment to the future of Nigerian students, who are the leaders of tomorrow.
Akinteye noted that the loan will help in empowering Students and ease financial burden on families adding that it will as well reduce the incidence of school dropouts due to financial constraints.
He said “I wish to express my profound gratitude to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their generous donation of N50 billion to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
“This remarkable gesture is not only a reflection of the EFCC’s dedication to combating financial crimes but also a demonstration of their commitment to the future of Nigerian students, who are the leaders of tomorrow. In a country where the cost of education continues to rise, many students face significant financial barriers that prevent them from achieving their academic aspirations.
“The introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund through this substantial donation will provide a much-needed lifeline for countless students across the nation. This initiative will enable them to access the education they rightfully deserve, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society.
“Furthermore, this loan fund will greatly assist parents who, despite their best efforts, struggle to afford the rising costs of education. For many families, the burden of educational expenses can be overwhelming, leading to difficult decisions about which child can continue their studies.
“The availability of this student loan will ease this burden, ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential.
“The benefits of the student loan fund extend beyond immediate financial relief. By enabling more students to complete their education, the fund will contribute to the development of a skilled and educated workforce, which is essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity.
“It will also reduce the incidence of school dropouts due to financial constraints, ensuring that more young Nigerians can become productive members of society.
“ I deeply appreciates the EFCC for this thoughtful and impactful contribution. This donation will not only support students but will also uplift entire families and communities, reinforcing the importance of education in building a better Nigeria.
“While I also commend EFCC for recognizing the crucial role education plays in national development and for taking concrete steps to support it. I’m using this medium to call on other government agencies, private organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the EFCC’s example by contributing to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
“Together, we can ensure that no Nigerian student is left behind due to financial difficulties. Thank you, EFCC, for this extraordinary act of generosity and foresight. I’m confident that your investment in the education of our youth will yield immeasurable dividends for our nation in the years to come”, he concluded.
