The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters across various states, including Akure, Kaduna, Jos, Kano, and others, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nigeria Police Force to release all detained student leaders and protesters.
In a statement signed by NANS President of the Senate, Comrade Henry Okunomo, the association called on governors of affected states to intervene swiftly to avert an escalation of the crisis.

NANS emphasised that the protests were within the ambit of the Constitution, citing Sections 40 and 39 (1) which guarantee the right to freedom of expression and assembly.
NANS demands:
– Immediate release of all detained protesters and student leaders
– Commitment from authorities to respect citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and free expression
– Protection of students’ rights to protest and express themselves without fear of intimidation or arrest.
