In the recent time, the Southwest region of NAPS has deviated from the generally acceptable ideological status of the zone due to inconsistent decision making courtesy of supposed leaders of undisputed character.

The position and activities of the zone leaders is not only demeaning but also very embarrassing and disgusting in all ramifications.

However, the Expanded Southwest Stakeholders Structure strongly disagree with the decision of the NAPS Southwest Structure to present Comrade Oyewumi Festus as their sole candidate for the presidency. Here’s why:

Lack of Experience: Comrade Oyewumi Festus is a first-timer, and entrusting him with the presidency may not be the best decision, considering the complexity of the role and the organization.

Selfishness: With a Yoruba-speaking comrade as the outgoing president, it’s surprising that the Southwest Structure is pushing for another Yoruba candidate. This raises questions about fairness and equity. Majority of former Presidents of NAPS from the North are purely Yoruba speaking individuals. This asks, where our conscience lies!? Are we saying other zone who accommodate us do not know what they are doing?

Lack of Patriotism: The decision seems to prioritize regional interests over national unity. NAPS should strive for inclusivity and diversity in its leadership.

Overlooking Other Zones: Other zones in Southern Nigeria deserve equal consideration and support. Ignoring them may create divisions within the organization.

Inconsistency: It’s contradictory that Yoruba-speaking aspirants are being supported for Senate President in the Northern region, while the Southwest Structure is pushing for a Yoruba candidate for the presidency.

Core Values: The Southwest Structure’s decision deviates from the core values of fairness, justice, and unity that NAPS should uphold.

Nationalism: NAPS should prioritize unity of purpose across all zones, rather than regional interests. This decision falls short of that ideal.

In conclusion, the NAPS Southwest Structure’s decision to push Comrade Oyewumi Festus as their sole candidate for the presidency is misguided and lacks consideration for the organization’s broader interests.

Amb. Ibrahim Olawale Seriki
Former NAPS National Senate President.
