THE Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), Ejigbo branch, has graduated 100 students from its vocational programme in Lagos.
The project tagged ‘Youth Sustainable Skill Training and Empowerment Programme’, according to the chairman of the branch, Alhaji Bolarinwa Hakeem, is part of the organisation’s vocational training programmes for students during the long vacation.
He stated that the skills development programme is an important tool for the country’s social and economic growth.
He said, “The young ones are the greatest change-makers and pacesetters if properly nurtured. Their minds would generate fresh and innovative ideas that could lead to the development of the country.
“But today, for reasons ranging from bad governance to leadership, our youths are facing some serious challenges regarding skills and jobs.
“To raise employment among youths, a skill-based training is needed to enable young people to make a smooth transition to work. This alternative educational path gives a chance to young people to grow professionally.”
Empowerment Secretary, Mrs Kudirat Olaopoola, said the training programme was designed to equip the younger generation with necessary skills to become self-reliant and reduce the issues of unemployment and economic dependency.
“The technical education and vocational training comprises formal, non-formal, and informal learning that fulfill the demand for skilled workers in the job market. And we thank Allah for making it a success,” Olaopoola said.
One of the parents, Alhaji Moshood Aliyu commended NASFAT team for the project while also encouraging the graduands to put the acquired skills to better use.
He said, “For many parents, this vocational training is an eye opener that we should not limit our children to western and Islamic education alone. There is need for us to expose them early enough in line to skill acquisition for them to be self-reliant especially in this era of scarcity of white collar job. So I commend NASFAT for this brilliant initiative and to all the instructors, I say they’ve done a wonderful job. May Allah reward them abundantly. This is a testament that NASFAT is not just a prayer group. The organisation is also about securing the future of our children.”
