THE Women’s wing of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fathi Society (NASFAT) has begun its eighth Biennial Women’s Conference tagged Ogun 2024. The conference, which began on Thursday and will end on Sunday, is holding at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The National Women Affairs Secretary of the organisation, Alhaja Ganiyat Babalola, at a world press conference heralding the conference, held at NASFAT Mosque, Ijemo, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, gave the theme of the conference, which is expected to draw about 1,000 delegates both physically and virtually, as ‘Strengthening Women’s Leadership through Empowerment and Islamic Values’.

At the press conference, Babalola, flanked by other officers of the of the organisation, advocated eco-farming as one of the steps to address hunger in the country.

She implored Nigerians to go back to farming to promote food sufficiency and sustainability in the country.

Babalola commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for being at the forefront of promoting gardening and encouraging Nigerians through her “Every Home a Garden Competition” initiative.

She said: “It is high time we went back to backyard farming. Let us all be responsible for what we eat. We must grow organic foods for healthy living. By doing this in our individual households, things will get better.

“We must promote environmental sustainability by turning our waste to wealth. All these issues will form part of our discussions during this conference tagged Ogun 2024.”

She explained that the conference would run from Thursday, 25 July, to Sunday, 28 July, 2024, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Activities lined up for the conference include a visitation to the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta; a workshop on environmental sustainability; aerobics, a fundraiser; and visits to notable places in Abeokuta.
