The Nigerian Navy has issued a stern warning to the public against wearing its uniforms, accoutrements, and insignia without proper authorization.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, Director of Naval Information, highlighted that the Navy had observed an increase in the misuse of its uniforms and symbols by individuals who are not part of the service.

Adams-Aliu emphasized that unauthorized use of Nigerian Navy uniforms is a criminal offense under Nigerian law, specifically Chapter 12, Sections 110(1) and (2) of the Criminal Code.

The law stipulates that “any person who is not a member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and wears their uniform or any attire resembling it is committing an offense.”

He urged the public to refrain from donning naval uniforms and accoutrements, warning that violations of these regulations could result in arrest and prosecution.
