I am writing to draw the attention of the Federal Ministry of Works to the urgent need for pedestrian bridges along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The expressway is a vital transportation link for millions of people. However, the lack of pedestrian bridges is unsafe for people within the city of Ibadan, as the expressway passes through busy areas in the city.
The government should provide pedestrian bridges at the following locations: Toll Gate, Felele, Soka, Sanyo, Boluwaji, Academy, Eleruku, Muslim, Bodija Express, General Gas, Ojoo, Olorunsogo, Oremeji, Sanyo, Agbowo, to mention a few.
There have been several reports of pedestrians being injured or killed while trying to cross this expressway. This is not meant to be. A pedestrian bridge would provide a safe way for people to cross the road. I implore the Federal Government to make the construction of pedestrian bridges a top priority.
In addition to the safety issue, a pedestrian bridge will also have other benefits for the local community. It will improve access to public transportation and provide easier access to bus stops.
The construction of a pedestrian bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will make a real difference in the lives of thousands of people. It will also stop records of accidents on the road. I hope that the federal government, through the Ministry of Works, will look into this issue and take action immediately.
The government needs to construct the bridges and also enforce the use of these bridges by pedestrians.
