The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has waded into the leadership crisis of Federated Association for Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS), thereby leading to conduct of a fresh election of the new executives in the state.
In his opening remarks, during the fresh election held Monday in Gusau, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, commended the aspirants and the students for the maturity they exhibited at the election venue in the state.
The Commissioner has assured the teeming Zamfara students that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has made budgetary provision for local and foreign scholarship.
“We are very much aware of the suffering that parents go through. So we have made provisions in the 2024 budget to give scholarships to Zamfara students studying across the tertiary institutions in Nigeria and diaspora,” the l commissioner said.
It could be recalled that FAZAMSS held its maiden national convention where it elected the pioneer executive officials of the association last week Tuesday.
But the election was later nullified in a notification signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Barira Ibrahim Bagobiri.
“The Ministry has deemed it fit to suspend earlier elections which took place on the 26th December, 2023 for obvious reasons in the state,” he added.
In an effort to cement peace and understanding between the two contending parties, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology brought the two sides together, reached an agreement for the sake of peace and stability.
“It was agreed that the National Union of Zamfara State Students (NUZAMSS) shall be officially addressed as Federated Association for Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS) while all other operations of the organization shall be guided by the constitution of NUZAMSS,” the notification read.
Announcing the result of the fresh election held at the Zamfara State College of Arts and Science, Gusau, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Yasir Ibrahim declared Comrade Abubakar Galadima as the newly elected President of FAZAMSS.
Other emerged candidates include; Comrade Abdulnasir Sani, Vice President I; Comrade Fadimatu Salisu, Vice President II; Comrade Mubashir Muhammad Adam, Secretary-General; Comrade Zainab Almustapha, Assistant Secretary-General and Abdulmudallib Sani as Financial Secretary of the association.
Others are: Rukayya Shuaibu, Treasurer; Abdulrashid Hamisu, Welfare Director; Muhammad Abdullahi, Social Director; Mubarak Sani, Auditor-General; Mahmud Aliyu, PRO I and Sani Abubakar as PRO II.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected officials, the Secretary-General of the association, Comrade Mubashir Muhammad Adam, said FAZAMSS under their stewardship will prioritise students’ welfare.
