Residents of Jikoko village in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory were left in shock after a newborn baby was found abandoned in a carton along a bush path.
The infant, believed to be just a day old, was discovered wrapped in cloth and placed inside a carton near a poultry farm in the community.

A local resident, Aliyu, who spoke with PUNCH on Saturday, described the moment the villagers made the discovery.

“We woke up to the sight of a day-old baby kept in a carton. It was along a bush path close to a poultry farm in Jikoko. The police were notified, and they took the baby to a health centre for medical attention,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the baby is now in the care of the social welfare department.
“Investigation has commenced to locate the mother of the baby,” she added.
