In a groundbreaking move, the Clean Ecosystem Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has initiated the creation of environmental clubs in secondary schools across Delta State, aimed at fostering a new generation of environmental advocates.
The foundation’s mission is to drive environmental sustainability, one community at a time, by promoting a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment. Through a combination of education, mobilization, and direct action, the NGO is equipping individuals and organizations to combat climate change and address environmental hazards head-on.
The introduction of environmental clubs in schools is seen as a significant stride in this mission. These clubs will inspire and educate young minds, cultivating them into future environmental ambassadors.
Comrade Timothy Ogheneovo Emorhakpor, the Director of Programs at the foundation, emphasized the urgency of addressing environmental challenges, pointing out that the lack of effective implementation of environmental policies has contributed to issues like climate change, ozone layer depletion, and the loss of biodiversity.
“We believe that by empowering young people to take action, we can raise awareness and inspire lifestyles that are more in harmony with the environment,” Emorhakpor said.
The first of these environmental clubs was recently established at Master Care International School in Asaba. Plans are underway to extend the initiative to other schools, including Government College, Ughelli, and Beach Secondary School, Koko, in the coming weeks.
The Clean Ecosystem Foundation is calling on individuals of all ages to support this cause, with the collective goal of creating a sustainable future for all.
