In a significant move to bridge the digital and financial literacy gap among women, NGX Regulation Ltd (NGX RegCo) has partnered with Revamp Africa under its EquipHER initiative.

This collaboration aims to promote financial inclusion for women and increase female participation in Nigeria’s equity market through the SheTech Digital Inclusion Program.

The program, designed to address economic and income inequalities at the grassroots level, recently provided training to over 40 young women from underserved communities in Lagos. Participants were equipped with digital skills, financial literacy, and life skills, empowering them to navigate the marketplace and compete effectively.

Training sessions included insights into Nigeria’s capital market, the roles of trading license holders and regulators, and the importance of the Investor Protection Fund (IPF).

In addition, the program offered practical skills such as web design, social media management and marketing, leadership, and business management.

Speaking at the program’s opening day, Mr. Chinedu Akamaka, Acting Head of Market Regulation at NGX RegCo, who represented the CEO, Mr. Olufemi Shobanjo, highlighted the importance of financial literacy.

“I believe the participants now have a solid foundation for building wealth. One of the key takeaways today is the emphasis on investor protection and fairness in the capital market, which presents a more reliable option for wealth creation compared to other asset classes. We encourage them to apply these learnings and skills as they step into the world,” Akamaka stated.

NGX RegCo, as a Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO), plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness and equitable participation in the market by regulating the activities of trading license holders and issuers. Its EquipHER initiative, in collaboration with Women’s World Banking, supports Nigeria’s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of gender equality and wealth creation.

By increasing women’s participation in the capital market, NGX RegCo and Revamp Africa aim to drive financial inclusion and empower a new generation of women to become active players in Nigeria’s economic growth.
