The Concerned Nigerlites Organisation, in conjunction with Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support Organisation, has appealed to all well-meaning Nigerlites and Nigerians, including this, who truly have this country at heart, to, as a matter of concern, shelve the planned nationwide protest beginning from August 1–10, 2024, over the hunger and economic hardships confronting the country.

Chairman of the movement, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Kuso, made the appeal while addressing journalists in a press conference organised by the forum of the Concerned Nigerlites on Saturday at the weekend in Minna, Niger State capital, over the planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1st–August 10th, 2024.

He urged that Nigerlites and Nigerians should distance themselves from the planned nationwide protest as it was being organised by some perceived misguided elements and unpatriotic citizens of the country, adding that this could be hijacked by some mischevious people.

“We believe in one indivisible Nigeria, without recourse to tribalism, religion, tribe, or politics, and we are prepared to do everything possible for Nigeria’s progress and unity,” he declared.

According to Dr Abubakar A. Koso, “It’s imperative for our organisation to voice out our stand against the planned national protest being organised by some misguided elements and unpatriotic citizens of our country.”

He, however, warned that “protests in whatever form could be hijacked by malicious people, which can bring about chaos, confusion, injuries, death, and further escalate the insecurity already bedevilling our nation.”.

The chairman thereby gave some instances where such peaceful protests turned out to be violent and destructive, saying, “Our sister countries caught in such quagmires” include Egypt, Sudan, Chad, the Niger Republic, and the ongoing protest in Kenya, emphasising, “that such an approach was wrong and not the solution to our socio-economic and political issues.”.

Dr Abdullahi Kuso, however, lamented that countries that undergo such national protests end up destroying their source of income; social infrastructure like schools, hospitals, office blocks, and private individuals’ businesses were looted and burned, leaving the citizens in abject poverty.

“The national protest in Nigeria will not only add to the hardships but will also bring misery and uncertainty among the innocent poor citizens as banks, hospitals, markets, motor parks, and other critical infrastructure shall remain under lock and key, and only the poor masses will bear the brunt,” he added.

He thereby called on all well-meaning citizens of this country to say no ! to any protest.

In their separate remarks at the media briefing, the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, who was represented by Abdulwahab Adamu, and the Director General, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Comrade Zubairu Bala Kuta, described the planned nationwide protest as illegal, adding that it will only draw the nation back socially, economically, and politically.

He, however, warned other affiliated organisations not to participate in the planned nationwide protest, warning that any organisation found wanting would have its Corporate Affairs Commission’s registration withdrawn.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria’s (NYCN) chairman further highlighted that the Concerned Nigerlites Organisation, with a membership strength of about 750, 000 and who were interested in the overall socio-economic and political development of the country, was prepared to do everything humanly possible for the unity and progress of its people.

Meanwhile, over 250 members of various organisations from the 25 local government areas of Niger State were in attendance at the press briefing.
