Police Operatives attached to the Niger State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Minna, the headquarters of the state Police Command, have arrested one Tricycle operator/rider in conjunction with five suspected notorious receivers of stolen goods that were allegedly forcefully robbed from various residential homes of the victims.

This follows the alleged confessional statements of the suspected armed robbery gang, who were earlier arrested by the Police and are now in custody, assisting Police detectives with information about their criminal activities in Minna, the state capital, and its environs in recent times.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a Crime Bulletin issued and made available to Journalists on Tuesday in Minna.

He added that against the backdrop of the recent robbery operations in Minna, the state Police Operatives arrested five suspects on 9th July 2023 in connection with the robberies at Morris, Brighter, Mandela, Tunga, Farm Center, David Mark Road, and Mobile quarters area of Minna respectively.

The five arrested suspected receivers of stolen goods were identified as:

  • Ahmed Sani (a.k.a Balarabe), 23 years, a phone repairer at Obasanjo complex
  • Abdullahi Abubakar (a.k.a Mourinho), 37 years, a phone accessories seller at Obasanjo Complex
  • Auwal Saidu, 25 years, a phone repairer
  • Abdulkareem Musa, 30 years, a phone repairer
  • Safianu Ibrahim, 21 years, a phone repairer at Chanchaga, among others.

According to the PPRO, one Murtala Junaidu, 21 years, from Katsina State and a resident of Makera in the Minna metropolitan area, was also arrested by Police Operatives.

He was allegedly found with a Tricycle marked BDA 806 WL. Murtala was believed to be a commercial tricycle rider who reportedly conveyed the suspected armed robbery gang during their criminal activities, mostly between the hours of 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

During interrogation, Abdullahi Abubakar confessed that he had been aiding the robbery gang to sell stolen items.

He reportedly recently collected seven phones and three computer laptops from one of the gang members identified as “Miksail,” and then contacted Balarabe to buy some of the items.

Balarabe confirmed that he bought three iPhones at the rate of £20,000 each, and two laptops at £25,000 each.

Some of the stolen goods allegedly recovered from the suspects include nine computer laptops, 16 phones, seven wristwatches, earpieces, power banks, and phone chargers.

DSP Wasiu Abiodun has assured that the investigation is ongoing at SCID Minna.

He also mentioned that one suspect identified as Abdullahi Musa is presently at large, allegedly with some other items.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the said fleeing suspect and recover other stolen items.
