Nigeria is a developing country with a diversity of cultures and religions. It was once regarded as Africa’s giant due to its strong capacities for national and economic development, among other things.
However, as time passed, Nigeria began to lose its identity, and strength as the giant of Africa because the leaders lacked foresight on how to incorporate the youths and shape the future. Due to their egotistical motivations and systemic corruption, the leaders were unable to make plans for the country’s improvement.
Nigeria’s population is largely made up of young people with zeal, passion, vision, and original ideas. However, some of them are letting go of these admirable qualities as a result of the government’s failure to implement laws that would have fostered their growth over time.
The youth of the nation has often been referred to as the leaders of tomorrow, but in practice, the elderly are unwilling to relinquish control in order for the youth to flourish and fulfill the lofty expectations placed on them over the years. When is this tomorrow going to arrive, is a major concern for many young people. Will they have to wait interminably?
Therefore, the government must invest in young people, foster an environment that is supportive, and put in place sound policies that will inspire young people and demonstrate that they are in fact the leaders of today as well as tomorrow. Nigeria must take this action in order to reclaim its title as Africa’s superpower.
Finally, I hereby urge all levels of government to give youth-friendly policies top priority in order to draw young people from around the world to Nigeria. This would once more contribute to Nigeria becoming the true African giant.
