Nigeria has indeed faced significant challenges with terrorism, landing it in the top ten list of African countries impacted by terrorism.
In recent years, Nigeria and other African countries have struggled with terrorism, with extremist groups spreading fear and instability. This has had a big impact on the social, economic development of the countries.
The recent Global Terrorism Index (GTI) report, from the Institute for Economics & Peace, says that terrorism affects sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and South Asia much more than other places. In 2023, these areas had 94% of all terrorism-related deaths. Sub-Saharan Africa alone had almost 59% of these deaths.

Asides the loss of lives and property, terrorism has causes displacement and disruption of essential facilities to be enjoyed by citizens.
Furthermore, it paints such a country in a bad image thereby restricting foreign business deals, investments and tourist visits due to instability and insecurity.
According to the report by Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Terrorism Index, below are the top 10 African countries impacted by terrorism.
