Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has granted pardon to two inmates in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

The pardoned inmates, Chai Yerima and Mohammed Bapeto, were serving various sentences at the Yola Old Medium Security Custodial Centre and Medium Security Custodial Centre, Jada.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosiko, it was noted that the governor’s decision followed the recommendation of the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, in line with Section 212 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As a result of the governor’s clemency, the remainder of Yerima and Bapeto’s sentences has been fully remitted, and their immediate release has been ordered.

Governor Fintiri urged the freed inmates to use this second chance to reform and reintegrate into society. He advised them to be law-abiding, seek rehabilitation, pursue education and skills development, and reconnect with their families and communities.

This gesture reflects Governor Fintiri’s commitment to justice, compassion, and human rights.
