Yomi Faparusi, a Nigerian-American resident of Tennessee, has announced his candidacy as an independent for Tennessee’s 5th District in the upcoming U.S. Congressional elections on November 5, 2024.
During a virtual press conference, Faparusi expressed his belief that a victory in this election would serve as an inspiration to the next generation.
He highlighted the issue of hyperinflation in the country, noting that it is making life increasingly difficult for the general population.
He also raised concerns about the shrinking middle class and the threatened state of the American dream.
Faparusi’s campaign aims to address these economic challenges and advocate for policies that support the welfare and aspirations of all Americans.
Faparusi who is a researcher, said he is contesting because America is divided and weakened, and that he is running to unite Americans across various divided.

His words: “America is so divided and weakened because politicians now run on divisive and wedge issues. Hence, I decided to run as a unifier, so that things can get done. I also hope my victory in November would inspire the next generation.
“There is inflation making it hard to make ends meet; the middle class is disappearing, and the American dream is threatened. I want to tackle inflation. I want to create an environment that is conducive to small businesses, the most important units of job creation.
“Congress is in stalemate, and nothing is getting done. I will work across the aisle for the common good. Americans are tired of cyclical threats of government shutdowns.
