Vice chancellor of the Nigeria Army University, Biu (NAUB), Professor Kyari Mohammed has charged the newly matriculated students of the institution to justify the confidence reposed in them by their parents and guardians.

He made a remark while addressing the 977 students who were offered admissions into the various programmes in the university, out of which 870 have successfully registered.

He spoke during the matriculation ceremony held at the university on Tuesday, saying that the number is a remarkable increase from the previous year’s 333 registered candidates.

The VC also said that the increase was in line with the high demand for a university due to its high academic standard, adding that “there have been no compromises on quality and carrying capacity during the admission selection.

He also informed the students that in NAUB, sporting activities are encouraged for both the staff and students, stating that there is now a new golf course in addition to other existing sporting facilities in the university

He noted that there are days dedicated to sporting events so as to enable staff and students to learn to play Golf in addition to other sports.

Professor Kyari Mohammed expressed how lucky the newly admitted students are to have been admitted into the Nigerian Army University Biu, which he described as one of Nigeria’s youngest and best universities in the country.

He further disclosed that all the programmes of the university had been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) with a score of 98 percent,  that the university is a very stable and competitive public university.

According to him, “this year is historic in the life of our university, because it is not only the fifth matriculation, but we shall also graduate our first batch of students during the convocation on our Founder’s Day in October.

He encouraged the new intakes to abide by the rules and regulations of the university and laws of the land,

“We shall provide the enabling environment for you to excel but we shall not hesitate to punish defaulters and law breakers. In this university there is no room for anti-social behaviour such as cultism, examination malpractice, gender-based violence and all forms of sexual harassment,” he said.

There are various channels of reporting infractions at both your department and the Students Affairs division, therefore, do not hesitate to report anyone or group that harasses you. We shall protect the weak and punish the offenders.”

After administering the matriculation oath on the students, the registrar of the institution, Brig Gen HY Abdulhamid congratulated the matriculated students as they have become registered students of the Nigerian Army University, Biu.
