THE Lord Diocese of Oyo, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Olugbenga Oduntan has urged President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet to be more proactive in making life comfortable for Nigerians in the interest of renewed hope.

The bishop disclosed this at the third session of the seventh Synod of St. James’ Anglican Centenary Church, Owode, Oyo, Oyo State, with the theme, “We Are Able”, held at St. James’ Anglican Centenary Church, Owode, Oyo State.

The cleric noted that the nation is returning to the year of independence (1960) with the reintroduction of the old national anthem which gives us the hope that “Nigeria We Hail Thee” can once again serve as a powerful tool of a reminder of the nation’s journey towards self-determination, sovereignty, unity in diversity, sense of national identity, national pride and patriotism.

According to him, reverting to an old anthem might not be enough to address the systematic plights confronting Nigeria today but the intentionality of the government in reconnecting with foundational values and ideals will bring national unity and development.

He said, “It is a time of great challenge and upheaval, yet also of hope and promise.

He urged Nigerians not to lose heart saying “This seeming darkness, I believe the light of God’s purpose is breaking through.

“Nigeria can indeed be likened to a snake while shedding its old skin. The process is undoubtedly painful – we see the turmoil and suffering across so many sectors,” he said.

“Our healthcare system is strained, our economy in distress, and insecurity and violence grip many of our communities. Hunger and deprivation afflict too many of our people. It is an unpalatable reality that we cannot ignore.

“God is leading us, step-by-step, from our present trials to the Promised Land that lies ahead. Though the journey is arduous, we keep our eyes fixed on the destination that the Lord has in store.

Oduntan also commanded the Oyo State governor, just as he described him as a trailblazer, innovative leader, goal-getter, and people’s governor.

He said that Governor Makinde has taken the state to a greater height, adding, “Oyo has become a reference point for other states in the area of service delivery and road construction.”
