The Coordinator for the Northwestern Zone Permanent Secretaries, Lauratu Ado Diso, has described the Northwest and North Central States of Nigeria as the most devastated regions in terms of banditry, kidnapping, and other related crimes.

These issues have made the areas particularly vulnerable to severe hunger and starvation problems.

She made these statements at the Biannual Review Meeting on the Implementation of Food Systems Transformation Pathways in Nigeria on Monday.

In her address, Hajiya Diso, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary for the Kano State Ministry of Budget and Planning, urged her colleagues to enhance efforts in addressing the issues of hunger and criminality in the region.

She emphasized, “We are all aware that this review aims to provide a critical analysis of the progress made so far and the implementation of the food system in respective states, along with the key ministries and agencies.”

She expressed concern that the devastation in the Northwest and Northeast regions caused by bandits, kidnappers, and insurgents has rendered farming activities nearly impossible in some areas.

According to her, these zones have become the most vulnerable in terms of malnutrition and hunger due to the ongoing threats to farming.

Diso added that “Therefore,we must double our efforts in eradicating this menace.

She then stated that “We must put all hands on deck to do whatever it takes to change this narrative or change the negative situation into a positive one.

“This could only be possible through effective implementation of Food System Transformation PathWays in all farms, and will only be possible through collaboration and coordination,” she advised.

She highlighted that hosting a meeting of this nature shows the total commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address the lingering issues in the entire food system within the state.
