Nationnewslead reports that Workers of the National Identity Management Commission on Monday resumed the National Identity Number registration exercise in the commission’s offices across the country.
However, the workers commenced the countdown of the 21-day ultimatum which they gave the Federal Government as touching welfare and safety issues for employees of the commission.
The President, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC Unit, Asekokhai Lucky, told our correspondent in Abuja that workers of the commission suspended their two-day warning strike last week to give room for negotiations with the Federal Government.
“Registration for NIN has recommenced because we have resumed work in our offices nationwide, but that does not mean that the issues of concern have been settled,” he stated.
Lucky added, “We are commencing negotiations with the government through the communications minister tomorrow (Tuesday) where we hope to resolve the issues.
“Also, we have started counting down on the 21-day ultimatum we issued the management of the commission and if nothing tangible is agreed on before the expiration of the ultimatum, then the strike will resume.”
Workers of the commission had downed tools on Wednesday and Thursday last week over fears of being infected by COVID-19 while carrying out the NIN registration exercise.
The strike was suspended after the intervention of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as the union and government agreed to meet Tuesday (Today) to address the concerns.
