As Nigerians prepare for the 2027 general elections, a top youth group under the aegis of Southern Youth Movement (SYM), has urged  the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu to vie for the governorship seat in Lagos State.

In a statement signed by its National President, High Chief Promise Lawuru, the group said no constitution banned the President’s son from contesting, adding that it has 101 reasons Seyi should be the next governor of Lagos state.

The statement reads in parts; “We Southern Youth Movement, SYM, hereby call on Engr. Seyi Tinubu to contest the forthcoming 2027 governorship election of Lagos State.

“Seyi Tinubu is qualified to be a governor in all ramifications. Age wise, he is eligible to contest the governorship seat with every requirement from the constitution.

“Seyi is eligible; and the most important thing is that he is a Lagosian. So we the youths of the Southern Youth Movement are going round all the Southern states to make sure that the youths take over the affairs of governance across the southern states.

“But first, we are starting with Lagos State. We will definitely go round all the other states in the south to make sure that youths take over the affairs of governance.”

The statement said further; “We therefore call on Engr. Seyi Tinubu to contest. We have 101 reasons why he should be governor of Lagos State. Seyi Tinubu is a hard working man. Seyi becoming the Governor of Lagos State will make Nigerians and the whole at large to see that truly he is met to be Governor. We are living in a digital world that needs people with digital experience to handle governance; and we believe that with Seyi becoming the Governor of Lagos State will create more expansion in the state. The state right now needs expansion and only people with digital experience can make that come to pass”.

“We hereby appeal to everybody, all Lagosians to see Seyi beyond the ‘President’s son since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has his name, Seyi Tinubu has his own name.

“The Nigeria constitution does not ban him from contesting. Therefore, we want the people of this country, especially Lagosians, to see Seyi Tinubu’s credibility beyond his father being the president.

“Seyi Tinubu has moved the length and breadth of this country and has been making sure that youths participate in this present government; and today, we have a minister for youths affairs, people below 40 years occupying major national positions; and all these are Seyi’s efforts”.

“So  we are pleading with Seyi Tinubu to contest for the 2027 governorship seat of Lagos State. In fact he does not have any choice; if he refuses to contest, we will surely compel him to contest for the good of the people; and this is our stand”. The statement noted.

“With his human sympathy, Seyi through his daughter’s foundation, has reached out to many Nigerians. This is to tell you that he Is a generous Man, humble and submissive; and these are the kind of people we need to govern us. You can see some top leaders who don’t even have one quarter of his wealth are living arrogantly, but Seyi remains an epitome of humility. He attends to issues without delay. So Lagosians will not regret making him the governor.”

“At this point in time, Nigerians need youthful governors to govern us. So therefore, as the SYM National President of the Southern States, we will make sure that Delta, Edo, Bayelsa and all the states in the south shall be copied by qualified youths.”

“Youths with capable hands shall come and take the centre stage of governance come 2027 and beyond. No state in the south will be excluded. We are beginning with Lagos State and we must achieve this dream”.

“It should be clearly noted that we are not coming to kick out the elders. We are coming to make sure that we plan with our elders because the rule of elders is to give advice. So it is time the elders of the country will give advice and it’s time for the youths to pilot the affairs of governance,” the group concluded.
