The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at addressing the decline in patriotism and reinforcing the importance of Nigeria’s National Anthem and National Values Charter.

During the campaign’s flag-off in Bauchi, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, emphasized the need to revamp the nation’s values to strengthen unity and national identity.

Speaking through Nura Kobi, National Director of Planning Research and Strategy, Issa-Onilu noted that while some might question the prioritization of this campaign, it is crucial for nation-building.

He highlighted that rebuilding Nigeria requires reorienting citizens to embrace values such as discipline, patriotism, and integrity.

The campaign, set to run from October to December 2024, will involve various activities, including town hall meetings, school outreach initiatives, and community forums across the country.

According to Issa-Onilu, the National Anthem and National Values Charter represent Nigeria’s collective aspirations and commitment to justice, peace, and prosperity.

State Director of NOA, Mrs. Theresa Omaga, called for support from the media, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and Nigerians abroad.

She stressed the importance of national symbols like the National Anthem in fostering unity and patriotism. She also referenced the recent Senate discussions on reinstating the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” which has sparked widespread debate.

The campaign will feature roadshows, school visits, media engagements, and advocacy to raise awareness about the National Anthem and Values Charter.

NOA aims to encourage citizens to take pride in their national identity, promote unity in diversity, and educate the public on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies. The media was thanked for its partnership in promoting government initiatives and keeping citizens informed.
