As Nigerians are desperate to protest against hardship in the country next week, the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday said, it has put in place every necessary measure to forestall any act of breakdown of law and vandalism by miscreants who might want to capitalise on the peaceful protest to destroy critical national assets in the state.
It however called on Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the state to take the assignment seriously and discharge their duties with high level of professionalism, and work in synergy with other sister agencies in the state.
The commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Dr Michael Adaralewa in a statement by the command spokesperson, ASC Kehinde Adeleke CDPRO in Osogbo, called on a group of people planning the protest, especially the youths to be law-abiding and refrain from vandalizing Critical National Assets in their domains.
‘According to him, ’It is our collective responsibility to protect critical infrastructure in our domains, we must not allow hoodlums to destroy our collective wealth all in the name of protest, I appeal to intending protesters to express grievances through lawful and peaceful means and to avoid engaging in any activities that could compromise national security and public safety”.
Commandant Adaralewa also urged parents and guardians to caution their children against being used by individuals seeking to incite trouble under the guise of peaceful protest, warning that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.
Commandant Adaralewa who emphasized that protection of Critical National Assets is a core mandate of NSCDC said, “the command has deployed massively to ensure that infrastructure such as petroleum and gas, pipelines, communication masts, railways, roads, bridges to mention but a few are not vandalized as they are the means of economic and social survival of the country.”
He, therefore, called on Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the state to take the assignment seriously discharge their duties with high level of professionalism, and work in synergy with other sister agencies in the state.
The State Commandant also assured members of the public of their safety as they go about their legitimate business, saying necessary measures have been put in place to forestall any act of breakdown of law and vandalism by miscreants who want to capitalise on the peaceful protest to destroy critical national assets in the state.
