The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the attack on journalists covering a press briefing conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yenagoa.
The press briefing, organized by the Sagbama Local Government Chapter of the APC, was disrupted by hoodlums, leading to chaos and causing various degrees of injuries to the journalists, who were left helpless during the incident.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Samuel Numonengi, and Secretary, Comrade Ogio Ipigansi, the union described the attack as callous and barbaric, calling it an attempt to prevent journalists from carrying out their legitimate duty of informing the public.
The statement urged security agencies to investigate and apprehend those responsible for the act, so they can be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
The union also called on politicians to always play by the rules to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The statement expressed sympathy for the injured, especially the union members, and wished them a speedy recovery.
