The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reappointing Dr Chioma Ejikeme as the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).

The NUP lauded Dr. Ejikeme for her innovative ideas, such as “I Am Alive,” which has significantly improved pension administration and management. Her empathetic approach towards pensioners and swift response to their issues, as well as her commitment to clearing substantial pension arrears and entitlements owed to various pensioner groups, have been crucial in enhancing the lives of pensioners. Not reappointing her, according to the NUP, would have been detrimental to the pensioners who are currently benefiting from her leadership.

The pensioners’ union has distanced itself from rumours of protests against her reappointment by some pensioners, suggesting that these protesters may be influenced and sponsored by individuals who do not have the best interests of Nigerian pensioners at heart.

In a statement signed by NUP National President, Mazi Godwin Abumisi, the union emphasised that Dr. Ejikeme’s reappointment is well-deserved, as her previous tenure as PTAD ES rejuvenated the hopes of pensioners nationwide through her effective leadership and professional approach to the job.

President Abumisi stated, “I commend His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for reappointing Dr. Chioma Ejikeme as the Executive Secretary (ES) of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate. This reappointment is well-merited and brings joy to the over two hundred and fifty thousand pensioners managed by PTAD.”

He also urged NUP members to support Dr Ejikeme to continue her excellent work in restoring the dignity of Nigerian pensioners.

Addressing the rumours of protests, Franklin Enrile, the General Secretary of the Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN), expressed disappointment and strong disagreement with any pensioner opposing Dr. Chioma Ejikeme’s reappointment. He emphasized the significant improvements she has brought to pension management and the better treatment of pensioners, making it incomprehensible for anyone to object to her return.

Enrile made it clear that no member of FEPPPAN is against her reappointment or plans to protest. He called on those influenced by “invisible and faceless” individuals for personal reasons to reconsider and stop working against the interests of Nigerian pensioners and the positive changes PTAD has implemented under her leadership.

In conclusion, Enrile expressed FEPPPAN’s gratitude to President Tinubu for reappointing Dr. Ejikeme, recognizing the positive impact of her innovative ideas and efficient administration. He urged President Tinubu to disregard any opposition, emphasizing that her track record and contributions merit her continued leadership at PTAD.
