The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has disclosed plans to provide affordable housing for all its staff members through options provided by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

This was even as the Managing Director, FMBN Mr. Madu Hamman, expressed the bank’s readiness to support the scheme.

The Director General, (NYSC) Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed made the disclosure when he led the Scheme’s top management on a visit to the FMBN headquarters in Abuja.

While commending the bank for its efforts at providing houses at subsidized rates to all categories of citizens, he said the visit was to seek strong collaboration with the bank.

He said the collaboration will create an opportunity for NYSC staff to own houses as part of the welfare plan of his administration.

In his response, Mr. Hamman identified three areas staff of the scheme could key into.

These he said are: “National Housing Fund Mortgage Loan, Cooperative Housing Development Loan, and Ministerial Pilot Housing Scheme. We operate each of these plans in all our branches across the nation”, he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the FMBN reiterated the bank’s commitment to ensuring that low and middle-class Nigerians obtain houses at affordable rates.

In another development, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has commended NYSC’s contributions to Nigeria’s unity, integration and development since its inception in 1973 to date.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Maitama, the monarch, who was represented by his wife, Olori Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi said “NYSC is the beacon of hope for this nation. One cannot but praise the noble scheme, taking into cognizance the role it has played especially in unifying the country through the promotion of inter-tribal, inter-cultural and inter-regional marriages among Nigerian youths.”
