Hon. Olubunmi Ezekiel Obeisun, the former Chairman of the Oriade Local Government Council and a significant figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ijesa North Federal Constituency, has condemned Senate Chief Whip, Sen. Alli Udume, for his recent comments on hunger. Obeisun labeled Udume’s statements as “oblivious and reckless,” particularly in light of President Tinubu’s recent directive on tariff and tax holidays for food imports, which was issued just six days earlier. This directive aimed to make food more abundant, available, and affordable, and received widespread praise from Nigerians.
Obeisun criticized Udume for being “completely unaware” of current developments, even within the Senate. He highlighted the current administration’s significant efforts to bolster food security through various measures, including agricultural incentives, funding, and enhanced security for farmers.
“It is bizarre that a distinguished senator like Udume could make such misinformed comments,” Obeisun stated.
He called on Udume to engage constructively with President Tinubu instead of pursuing “ignorant witch-hunts,” which he warned could damage the Senate’s reputation under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
