Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has underscored the importance of digital communication in driving sustainable socioeconomic growth and development in the contemporary global economy.
The governor stated this recently when he declared open the 2024 Chief Executives and Directors Conference and Retreat of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Asaba.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, the governor said digital communication is important to the extent that it is used intelligibly for the audience to fully comprehend both the latent and manifest content of communication.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oborevwori said it is essential if the encoder must be understood by the decoder to adjust his attitude, taste and behavioural patterns to suit what is intended.
The governor said he was happy that the NIPR was confronting the challenges head-on but added that there was need for members of the institute to endeavour to segment their public while on the digital plane.
He also noted that the task of matching skills, language and presentation must move fast enough to cope with the growth and expansion in science and technology.
On his part, Head of Media Relations, Nigerian Communications Commission and Secretary General, African Public Relations and Communication Management, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan said technology is essentially beneficial to man and society as it brings value to the society.
Ibietan said that technology data and insights are foundational to the practice of public relations in contemporary society, adding that creative entrepreneurship, building a good relationship with people and stakeholders as well as sustaining it were forces that drive public relations.
