Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Hon. Francis Waive, member representing the Udu, Ughelli South, and Ughelli North Federal Constituencies at the National Assembly, will be gracing the golden jubilee of their alma mater, Aladja Grammar School.

The President, Aladja Grammar School Old Students Association, Mr Andrew Okrakene, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Warri.

He said that the forthcoming event was scheduled for between September 27 and 29, 2024.

Okrakene, who was flanked by some members of the association at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel, said that the governor and the lawmaker were alumni of the Aladja Grammar School.

He said that the school, being the first secondary school in Udu Local Government Area, was founded in September 1974.

He added that the school has achieved remarkable goals in the past five decades.

According to him, the school had served as a beacon of learning in the past 50 years, shaping the lives of countless students and making significant contributions to society.

“This is a time of reflection, appreciation, and anticipation as we honour five decades of academic excellence, character building, and community engagement at Aladja Grammar School.

“Over the last five decades, Aladja Grammar School has grown from its humble beginning in 1974 to become a leading institution in Udu Local Government Area of Delta.

“Being the first secondary school in Udu Local Government Area, we are proud of our long history of academic achievements.

“The event is not just about nostalgia but also about coming together to support the future of this great institution,” he said.

Okrakene said that the school had produced graduates who had excelled in various disciplines, including engineering, medicine, law, the arts, and public service, among others.

Chairman, Delta State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency, Dr. Henry Sakpra, on his part, said that the three-day celebration would kick off with an interactive session between the alumni and current students of the school as well as a commemorative road walk.

He said that day two would feature a lecture with distinguished speakers, including prominent academics and community leaders, closely followed by a luncheon where awards would be presented and funds raised for the development of the school.

According to the former chairman of Udu Local Government Area, the celebration will conclude with a Thanksgiving service at the Holy Trinity African Church, Aladja.

Sakpra, who is also the Chairman, Organising Committee of the event, said that the celebration was not just a reunion but a representation of their commitment to the future of education in the community.

He noted that Aladja Grammar School had produced a number of notable alumni, including state governors, federal legislators, and successful entrepreneurs.

Sakpra said as the school prepared for this milestone, the alumni community looked forward to reflecting on its shared history and reaffirmed its dedication to supporting future generations of students
