Senior Special Assistant to Adamawa State Governor on Peace and Security, Ahmed Lawan, has enjoined residents especially the youths not to join the October 1 national protest called by some “few faceless and unpatriotic Nigerians”.
In a statement by the governor’s aide, he described Adamawa as ever peaceful, adding that it is suicidal for any claimed patriot to consider a protest of the kind under any guise, “now that the country is undergoing restructuring”.
Lawan, who said that Adamawa state would not join the protest, added that the state had never benefited anything meaningful from the ones held in the past.
He said there are ongoing massive structural developments like roads and cottage hospitals as well as recorded strides in the health sector across the state that cannot be jettisoned for any sentiment.
Having listed other achievements of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Lawan said: “It is with this in mind that the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Peace and Security, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan calls on all parents, guardians, and religious bodies to advise their children, wards and followers not to engage in the proposed national protest organised by yet to be identified persons”.
The SSA, who said that though peaceful protest is a constitutional right for Nigerians, added that: “any such action from the faceless protesters whose identity could not be ascertained should be ignored and not be encouraged by true and genuine patriot”.
Lawan, therefore, appealed to the sponsors and callers of the exercise not to delve into any action that could be hijacked by hoodlums with a view to destroying the “beautiful projects, programmes and policies of Governor Fintiri’s administration which took dedication, hard work, commitment and selflessness to build over the years and which all residents are enjoying”.
