OGBOMOSO, a historic city nestled in the heart of southwestern Nigeria, stands as a vibrant testament to the rich and undiluted Yoruba culture. This town is a living museum of traditions, where the essence of the Yoruba identity permeates every aspect of life, from language and attire to food and festivals. As globalisation encroaches upon many cultural landscapes, Ogbomoso remains a beacon of authenticity, steadfast in its commitment to preserving the heritage that defines its people. In Ogbomoso, the pulse of Yoruba culture is palpable. The local dialect resonates with the vibrant tones of the Yoruba language, while traditional foods tantalise the taste buds with flavours that have been passed down through generations. Traditional dress, complete with intricate tribal marks, not only serves as a reflection of individuality but also as a marker of communal pride. Festivals in Ogbomoso embody the spirit of unity and celebration, showcasing dances, music, and rituals that tell the story of the town’s history and its people. Despite the pervasive influence of globalisation, the cultural fabric of Ogbomoso remains strong. This resilience can be attributed to the visionary leadership of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, the Orumogege III. Understanding the need to strengthen and promote the town’s culture and tourism, His Imperial Majesty has incorporated cultural promotion into his 25-year economic development plan.

In his commitment to preserving the rich heritage of Ogbomoso, he established a dedicated committee tasked with the mission of elevating cultural and tourism events, leading to the inception of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival. Chaired by the passionate cultural enthusiast and communication strategist, Prince William Adeleye, and co-chaired by Dr. Oladejo Akanni, the committee comprises members who are equally committed to the growth and advancement of Ogbomosoland. Together, they are pioneering initiatives designed to create awareness and ensure the success of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, an event poised to become a hallmark of Yoruba culture. Scheduled to take place from December 19 to 23, the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival promises a feast for the senses—a celebration filled with cultural displays, exhilarating masquerade performances, and an array of traditional Yoruba cuisine that showcases the diversity of flavours within the culture. Participants and visitors alike will have the opportunity to engage in sport tourism and explore the rich traditions that define the Ogbomosoland experience. In preparation for this remarkable event, the committee is actively reaching out to traditional rulers and critical stakeholders to garner support and drive the vision forward. The goal is not only to provide an enriching cultural experience but also to create a lasting economic impact on the local community. By promoting tourism through events like the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, the committee aims to foster economic opportunities for artisans, hospitality providers, and various local businesses, further embedding the importance of culture in the economic landscape of Ogbomoso.

The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is more than just an event; it is a declaration of pride in Yoruba heritage and a commitment to cultural preservation. As Ogbomoso moves forward in an ever-changing world, the celebration of its traditions will reinforce its identity and create pathways for economic development. For locals and visitors alike, Ogbomoso stands as an exemplary model of how a community can celebrate its culture, embrace tourism, and pave the way for a prosperous future. Join us from December 19 to 23 as we embark on a mesmerizing journey through the heart of Yoruba culture at the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival—a celebration not to be missed!
