NO fewer than 15 communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government of Ogun State are calling on the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to assist in the construction/ rehabilitation of the major road connecting the communities.

The communities’ residents, who trooped out at the weekend in a peaceful protest, lamented neglect and delapidated nature of the 15- kilometre road that connects the entire communities to Mowe and Magboro in  Ogun State.

They bemoaned how heavy trucks and tippers are lifting sand from River Ogun destroyed the entire community’s road and made it impassable for motorists and pedestrians.

The residents pointed out that the worse moment was when flood took over the roads and made it impassible for a whole day.

The communities with this terrible road comprise Ogunrun, Pakuro, Orimerunmu, Ijere,  Ajerokun, Torotoro, Kara Nla, Kara Kekere, Magbon, Magada and Sote, among others.

Speaking during the rally, Pakuro  Area CDC Chairman, Elder Olufemi Omoloso, maintained that the major road, when fixed will connect Mowe to Magboro without getting to the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway.

He appealed to Governor Abiodun to help fix the road.

“ There is a lot of opportunities in our communities. The only stumbling block is the road, which is in sorry state right now.

“We are using this medium to appeal to our governor,  Houses of Assembly, Representative’s members and Senators that we want them to help fix the road, which is about 15 kilometers.

“There are dredging, farming and trading activities here. Most of the farm products get spoilt before getting to the towns because of bad roads.

“We appeal that the state government should come and rehabilitate the road that leads to Magboro from Mowe,” he said.

Chairman, Ajimoni Progressive Area, Jimoh Owolabi Ayodele, said that letters have been sent to the Governor’s Office and House of Assembly about the delapidated nature of the road, and that nothing has been done.

He appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to come to the aid of residents of the communities.

Baale of Paruko, Chief Olusegun Fatoyinbo, begged the state government, especially the governor to help construct the road from Mowe to Magbon.

Another resident, Owolabi Jimoh, urged the governor to assist the community to fix the major road.

He said people came to the community to dredge sharp sand and that government officials were also available to collect tax from the sand miners, wondering why the road should be left to degenerate poorly.

He explained that on yearly basis, the communities used to spend N10 million  on palliative work, saying “ we are tired of doing this road on palliative level.”

Female resident, Mrs Happiness Osayande, appealed to Governor Abiodun, Senator, and Chairman of the Local Government to help to fix the road.

Engr. (Mrs) Araba Tonse, said:” We are calling on our governor to come to our aid. The road from Ofada through Mowe through Pakuro and Magboro.

“The road is bad, not motorable. We look forward to the governor to help us,” he said.
