Laboratory equipment and furniture worth over N7 million have been donated to the Electrical Engineering Department of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

The donation was made on Saturday by a group under the aegis of the 2001/2002 Alumni class of the department.

While speaking during the presentation of the equipment and laboratory to the university management, the leader of the group, Prof. Nurudeen Umar, stated that the equipment and furniture were valued at N7.2 million.

Prof. Umar, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Kano, explained that the group felt compelled to make the donation as a sign of gratitude for the education and support they received at ATBU.

According to him, “We are here this morning at the Electrical Engineering Department of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi to donate some equipment and furniture to the department.”

He further stated, “We are alumni of this great department, class of 2001/2002, and we felt we needed to give back to the department, and that’s why we are here today. We donated some items, mostly laboratory equipment and furniture.”

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor also detailed the donation, saying, “We donated desktop computers along with computer tables, more than 200 tools, office blinds, multimeters, magnifying glasses, sockets, and other items that can be used in the workshop.”

“Basically, they are laboratory equipment, tools, and furniture,” he added.

In response, Prof. Sani Kunya, the Acting Vice Chancellor of ATBU, said that the gesture marked a significant milestone for the university at a crucial time.

According to him, “I feel humbled on behalf of the university to have this presentation. Not even the presentation, but when you look at the amount involved, we really appreciate this gesture.”

Prof. Kunya added, “This will go down in the history of the department, the faculty, and the university as a whole.”

The Vice-Chancellor assured that all the donated items would be used judiciously and properly maintained.
