The Olowu of Owu, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, has urged media owners and practitioners to prioritize ethical standards in their profession.
He made this call while receiving Adejola Adeyemi Crown, publisher of Tropic Reporters, an online news platform, at his Oke Ago Owu Palace in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital on Friday.
Oba Matemilola emphasized the importance of trust in the media profession, noting that the public relies on them for accurate information.
He charged media practitioners to resist unethical influences and maintain the integrity of their profession.
The monarch also commended Tropic Reporters for its innovative approach to news dissemination, leveraging digital technology, and encouraged the media to continue by promoting truth and fact-based reporting.
Oba Matemilola said: “The media profession is built on trust, and it is essential that you maintain that trust by upholding ethical standards. Resist the temptation to compromise your integrity for any reason, as it is your integrity that sets you apart”.
“The public relies on you for accurate information, so ensure that you verify your facts before publishing. Tropic Reporters has shown commitment to fact-based reporting, and I commend the media organization for their innovative approach to news dissemination”.
“I charge you to continue promoting truth and fact-based reporting, as it is the only way to maintain the trust of the public. With great power comes great responsibility; use your power wisely”, Oba Matemilola added.
On his part, Adejola Adeyemi Crown, Publisher of Tropic Reporters, explained that the visit was a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between Tropic Reporters and the Olowu of Owu kingdom.
He also extended congratulations to Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola on his upcoming 60th birthday and the 2nd coronation anniversary in August, demonstrating the media organization’s support and appreciation for the monarch’s leadership.
